Julie & Jordan - August 11th, 2018

Julie & Jordan dance a fox trot to "Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters" by Elton John at their wedding at the zoo. Julie's dress was bananas but also flawless and Jordan is there for her every step of the way. Did I mention this was at a zoo?

When Ryan approached us about choreographing our first dance we had no idea what to expect. I believe the first question we asked was, “Do people even do that?” However, after just one session with Ryan, it was not only clear that people do, but that they absolutely should.

From the very beginning, Ryan made us feel completely at ease. He gauged our wants, our capabilities, but most importantly, he listened—absorbing our personalities patiently, carefully and passionately in order to choreograph a love that was eternally unique to us. With effortless talent and professionalism, Ryan guided us throughout the entire process with undemanding grace—making us feel comfortable during all the ups and, quite literally, the downs (I fell a lot haha). Nevertheless, Ryan was always right there to pick me up.

As a teacher, he never missed a step (and most definitely ensured we didn’t either). He was confident, considerate, dedicated, efficient—the list of didactic adjectives could go on-and-on, so I’ll just sum it up with one more…perfect. And for someone like myself who wouldn’t traditionally be labelled a ‘professional dancer’, with Ryan’s encouragement and allowing sense of humor, I sure as hell felt like one.

So, all-in-all, people say your wedding day goes by in a blur, and to a degree, that’s true. You remember moments, conversations, etc. Though some of it simply gets lost in the mix. That being said, one of my most vivid memories will always be staring into my wife’s eyes, twirling amidst all our loved ones as Elton John’s “Mona Lisas & Mad Hatters” underscored the timelessly beautiful gift Ryan gave us…our first dance. And I can say with utter certainty, on a day that’s culturally-handcuffed to the word “special”, Ryan made our wedding exactly that.
